I am not a Woolfolk by birth. Many of my friends have asked me why I have spent time on my Husband's family history. It was not my original plan to do so. At a party early in our marriage, I overheard my husband telling someone that he was a descendant of the George Washington family. Being a researcher, I was curious about the validity of the statement. He reported that the existence of a relationship was a family tradition. So I set out to find the "truth". Not only did I find that he was correct, but I go caught up in the genealogy obsession.
I hope the readers of this book, Woolfolks and non-Woolfolks, will learn more about the development and expansion of the south through the lives and experiences of this pioneer family.

When my wife began to collect data on the Woolfolk family, I was mildly interested. Like so many, I had little interest in my family's genealogy, knowing only the last two generations. As the history of the family began to unfold, my interest grew, and I became dedicated to my wife's effort.
Many times Elizabeth considered giving up as the magnitude of the task continued, but I kept encouraging her to perservere. Now that the book is completed, I am constantly amazed by the amount of history we have learned. We both have a new understanding of how the South was settled.
I hope that the book, PIONEERS, PATRIOTS, and PLANTERS, becomes treasure for the Woolfolk families as it has for me. Its historic perspective will provide valuable insight to any reader who is interested in a first-hand record of colonial migration.
