Pioneers, Patriots, and Planters New Concept in Family History
|
|
By using actual records and other archival documents, the author, Dr. Elizabeth Woolfolk has constructed a narrative of the Woolfolk family, starting in Virginia in the mid-1600s and ending just after the Civil War.
The 676-page book describes the Woolfolks as prototypes of the English immigrants who migrated from the Virginia coast to settle in the frontier wilderness, land that became the southern states.
Told in the context of the political, social and economic forces that molded colonial life, the book provides a unique insight into the evolution of the counties and states and the manner in which settlers forged the development of communities.
Over 100 illustrations of actual records, maps, portraits and other documents aid the reader in following the journey of the family members in the arduous task of taming the land. Of particular interest are the pictures and descriptions of 12 historic Woolfolk houses in Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia and Lousiana.
Historians and genealogists will value the notes at the end of each chapter, the 23 pages of bibliography and an index of 44 pages that includes topics and names.
Two diaries written by Woolfolk women during the Civil War and letters between Woolfolk sisters in Kentucky and Virginia add a personal dimension to the narrative.

SUPPLEMENT PROVIDES DATA FOR WOOLFOLK FAMILY GENEALOGISTS |
A 120-page supplement to Pioneers, Patriots, and Planters is available. Basic genealogical data, such as dates of birth, marriage and death as well as the names of spouses, can be found for over 2600 Woolfolks.
The supplement, a Woolfolk Family Descendant Chart, covers information from the late 1600s to the early of mid-1900s. The information listed was made available to the the author while researching the book, Pioneers, Patriots, and Planters. This will allow Woolfolk to trace their ancestors back to the 1600's and should allow you to trace your family back the the first Woolfolk's in America, making your family genealogy come alive with the rich history of this pioneer family.
Because of limited supply, the supplement will be sent, for a small fee, to those who purchase a book and request the supplememt. |
